Lightning on the strings, thunder on the mic
It’s called Gangstagrass. Bluegrass & Hip/Hop’s answer to the Reese’s peanut butter cup. A sweet mix that led to an Emmy nomination for best theme song, “Long Hard Times to Come” heard Wednesday nights on the FX hit TV series Justified. The genius behind this hip/hop mashup is a Brooklyn-based producer, singer and songwriter- a man called Rench. Shake up this hybrid box of rap vocals (T.O.N.E-z, an NYC emcee is featured on some tracks), beats and bluegrass samples and what pours out is something indescribably delicious. Wait! That’s another candy bar.
