<itunes:summary>When an artist you'd never heard tells you he considers his latest record to be "more of an offering than a group therapy ssession" you veritably race to binge on his old stuff (http://tiny.cc/2kens). Admit it. Feeling another's pain from the safety of your iPod is delicious. Resist, until you've first devoured Tilt from Nashville singer-songwriter, Brett Ryan Stewart (http://brettryanstewart.com/music).

You'll know why in the first 3 minutes of this show.

(http://2kensmusic.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/10/brs_reflect200.jpg)

Want to know a secret about the creative process of this Tom Waits/ Tom Petty /Pearl Jam hybrid of an artist? In our 30 minute chat Brett told us one thing he's never divulged in any interview. (no spoilers :) )
About the album...
A culmination between Stewart and guitarist/producer Chris Tench, Tilt (http://brettryanstewart.com/music) gives listeners a window to the landscape of Stewart’s heart and mind. Together with Nashville based producer Tres Sasser (Will Hoge/ James Dunn), and Roger Moutenot (Guster/Lou Reed/Yo La Tango), the clean elegance and effortless power of Stewart’s voice confronts the inevitable and the unknown from Stewart’s self-professed “awakened state of mind”, which he attributes to the recent, sudden loss of two friends.
Brett is Helping Homeless Vets...
Brett has teamed up (http://tiny.cc/2kens) with Voices United for Veterans to help stamp out veteran homelessness. One in four homeless in America served in the military. They were there for us. Let's be there for them.</itunes:summary>

It's called Gangstagrass (http://www.gangstagrass.com/). Bluegrass & Hip/Hop's answer to the Reese's peanut butter cup. A sweet mix that led to an Emmy nomination for best theme song, "Long Hard Times to Come" heard Wednesday nights on the FX hit TV series Justified (http://www.fxnetworks.com/shows/originals/justified/). The genius behind this hip/hop mashup is a Brooklyn-based producer, singer and songwriter- a man called Rench. Shake up this hybrid box of rap vocals (T.O.N.E-z, an NYC emcee is featured on some tracks), beats and bluegrass samples and what pours out is something indescribably delicious. Wait! That's another candy bar. ;-)

Rench also is big into Shopping Cart Racing! Yep, races are held in many cities in January. The event is called (wait for it)...

His new opus, Junction Road (http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/armstrongjim2/from/podprince) "where rock meets twang" is pure Americana heaven! We sampled 9 tracks during our sit down with Jim and his longtime songwriting partner, Andrea Poulis who runs their music business out of Sonic Deli Records (http://www.sonicdelirecords.com/) in Toronto, Ontario Canada.

Email Jim & Andrea (mailto:sonicdeli@sympatico.ca). They'd love to hear from ya!

Born in the US of Egyptian parents, Melina and her husband live in Houston where she helps support the Texas Children's Hospital (http://melinagerges.texaschildrens.org/) and their Heal Sick Children campaign with benefit concerts. The couple are expecting their first child in February.

 <itunes:summary>His music is a unique blend of vocal purity, soaring emotions, the strength of opera and musical theatre, with the flavor of 70”s R&B/Soul. Equally unique is the path that led Richard Kincaid (http://www.richardkincaidmusic.om) to Return to his passion.

Classically trained from grade school through college, the dynamic range of Richard's voice could be held back only so long. Longtime businessman and CEO of the largest publicly traded office real estate company in America when his company sold in Feb. '07, Richard experienced a moment of reckoning. He faced a choice: he could step back onto the corporate treadmill or pursue projects that really mattered to him.

“I didn’t want to continue on autopilot,” he says, “I wanted to make conscious decisions about my life and I needed outlets for my passion that corporate life never provided me.” Thus, Richard turned the page and began a new chapter in which he returned to his first love: music and simultaneously blazed a trail through new territory: philanthropy.

Today, Richard's not-for-profit foundation, BeCause (http://www.becausefoundation.org/) drives social change through the powerful fusion of documentary film and strategic business planning to put faces on the countless unseen cases of human suffering.

Tracks from Return heard on this show include: Angels, You Raise Me Up, One Song Glory, Ribbon in the Sky, All in Love is Fair, Remember When It Rained.</itunes:summary>

 <itunes:summary>Now that the smoke has cleared from the release of "Burn The Ships", their first CD to fly all-original colors, Ironwood Rain (http://www.IronwoodRain.com) stands firmly on the shores of acoustic nirvana.

No longer content to front a mostly-cover band, vocalist/bass player, Scotte Burns and childhood friend, songwriter and guitarist, Mike Kloepfer set sail by adding two key mates (and deep-sixing the drum machine) to form the Denver-based, AC/AAA, progressive rock quartet their fans insist is the second-coming of C S & N and the Eagles.

JJ Maestas answered a CraigsList ad, stepped to the mic and blew away everyone who'd auditioned with a voice Burns says is "suggestive of Ritchie Havens or The Guess Who’s Chad Allen."

Gary Saint Germain joined the crew this year, the high-energy Boston drummer instantly altering Ironwood Rain's course to a more dynamic, percussive sound.

Burn the Ships is a collaborative song-writer's dream, each member contributing lyrics and music to a lusty brew of acoustic & rich, vocal harmonies. Sit back and enjoy their music as we chat for 20 minutes with Scotte, Mike, JJ and Gary.

Oh, and be sure to watch 'Making of Burn the Ships (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kVdAzQpmNbk).'

 <itunes:summary>gilli named her just-released sixth album The Stillness (http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/GilliMoon6/from/podprince) to reflect where her soul lives these days. In that quiet place under the radar. A stark contrast to her meteoric rise from the Australian wildnerness to Los Angeles and indie music icon status.

With the same futility reviewers must feel when they try, with words, to truly capture her live performances, gilli moon (she prefers lower case- ya gotta listen :-)) is too many things for this space to hold. Polymedia artist, prolific and award-winning singer-songwriter, producer, publisher, speaker and co-founder of Songsalive!®, the largest international non-profit songwriter's organization, gilli's own label Warrior Girl Music (http://www.warriorgirlmusic.com/) sends in high decibels her message of self-affirmation.

That's only part of the wisdom she tirelessly imparts to fellow artists, writers and producers. The rest of it is the understanding that this is a business in which, to achieve all that you strive to reach, you must go out and get it.

Throughout this interview you will hear many of the songs on The Stillness. gilli moon hopes you enjoy them as much as she and her band did in their creation. And if you enjoyed our show drop us an email (mailto:feedback@2kensmusic.com). We love hearing from fans! [show runs 45:00]

One of three original tribute groups to hit the shores of the UK nearly two decades ago, All Mod Cons scored big with young fans of The JAM. Several European tours later, the Americans are still at it. Lead-singer, guitarist and co-founder, Barry Pugatch, AMC's current drummer, A.J. One gesture - if not gratitude, certainly respect for AMC's chops - came from Brit drummer, Rick Buckler who, along with Bruce Foxton co-authored the book, "The Jam: Our Story (http://www.amazon.com/Jam-Our-Story-Bruce-Foxton/dp/189814110X)." In it Buckler wrote:

 <itunes:summary>Commercialization be damned...
Their art firmly rooted in the 60s, Crazy Mary (http://www.crazymary.com) has been around the NYC music scene for a dozen years. You will find their genre somewhere in the rock/ progressive rock/ Alternative/ Underground spectrum. What you won't find is a band that produces sounds to get "discovered" by a major label. They write, perform and record music they're passionate about.

Formed by veteran Lower East Side guitarist and songwriter Charles Kibel and drummer Nick Raisz, Crazy Mary has been conjuring its refreshingly oddball avant-garage rock since 1998. A bubbling cauldron of chiming and scraping guitars, creepy organ, spacey, experimental sounds, Dada-ish pranksterism, and absurdly danceable rhythms, the band distills it all into a surreal cocktail of post-punk/psychedelic weirdness. And now, with the recent additions of legendary underground violinist Walter Steding and expatriate Australian vocalist Em Z, things have gotten even weirder. In a good way, of course.

We sat down with Charles, Nick and Walter to talk tunes-- and came away with a finer understanding of the music theory, intellect and artistic juices that fuel this impossible-to-button hole band. NOTE: interview begins at the 6:00 min mark of the show.

Spotlighted are six tunes off their newest album, Water On The Moon (http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/crazymary8/from/podprince).

	* Eyes Above the Clouds
	* Orgasmic Annie
	* Gravity
	* Way Too Freaky
	* Another Dollar
	* Black Candles

 <itunes:summary>Urgency...
It is the title of her new album and for Maree McRae (http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/mareemcrae/from/podprince) the music contained therein is deeply personal. Begun as an Americana / Country studio project, something delightfully odd happened on its way to radio stations across the land. One of the tracks, "Breeze" became the #1 most added single in the country making it’s mark nationally at #7, alongside TAYLOR SWIFT, on Adult Contemporary Radio.

But, as you will hear, the real story is how "Urgency" came to be. Maree wrote the title track in her car after exiting a Denver hospital where her 18-year old son had just been diagnosed with a serious immune system disorder. Something he had suffered with since birth.

Maree has been compared to Jewel, Mary Chapin Carpentar and Michelle Branch, a distinction she richly deserves. We think you will agree.

Crank up your headphones and enjoy our special interview with this incredibly gifted singer-songwriter. Then get out and support her the next time Maree plays out in Rocky Mountan high country. A schedule of upcoming gigs can be found on her website (http://www.mareemcrae.com).

 <itunes:summary>If The Eagles and Jack Johnson had a baby...
His music and lyrics would sound a lot like Mark Radcliffe (http://www.markradcliffe.net). He grew up in Maine and Vermont, taught high school English for years (yes, waited tables & tended bar) and wrote ad copy. Along the way he's played and sung his tunes from NYC to Atlanta to LA, and in countless other cities and towns in between. Today, his first, full-studio CD, "The Sea Before Us (http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/markradcliffe2/from/podprince)" is getting lots of spins and drawing glowing reviews from coast to coast.

2Kens Comedy Club Indie caught up with Mark for a fascinating 15 minutes in which we learned he...

	* is obsessed with brunettes
	* can go 5 minutes on how not to be a schmuck (http://www.oneminutehowto.com/Shows/Shows.asp?How_To_Not_Be_A_Schmuck_When_Sitting_In_A_Movie_Theater) at the movies
	* has had enough failed jobs and star-crossed relationships to fill his next album
	* no longer believes 30 (or any age) is the point when you figure out life

Songs played include, "In The Sun", "Blow It All Away", "Tumbleweed" and our personal top-down, driving around tune "Miss Hard To Forget." (for that special brunette in your life!)

Their debut EP, Cooper Cobra (http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/LilySparks/from/podprince) tells your ears all you need to know. Every note orchestrated and sung as sweetly and powerfully as any muscle car engine on the line at Connecticut Dragway. Purrfect!

To appreciate today's musical guest. No matter your age, the RHYTHM is gonna grab ya. But especially so if you're a child. Which is what Heather and Norman Jones set out to do in 2003 when they conceived of the Rhythm Child Network (http://rhythmchild.net). Big people vibes, soul, R & B, reggae... for children. As you will hear, the couple's two boys, Bailey (9) and Andre (4) contribute mightily to the cause, on stage and off.

Rhythm Child’s mission is to encourage children to create soulful music and percussion, while also building their self confidence. “Eat a Bowl of Cherries” the group’s latest release, proves that not all children’s music needs to be hyperactive and saccharin sweet. Style-wise, Rhythm Child sounds more like Otis Redding than Alvin and the Chipmunks, an innovation that will delight children and parents alike. Enjoy the show, folks!

By the way, compliments of Rhythm Child, get your free download (http://media.libsyn.com/media/twokens/Rythym-Child_Everybody_Is_The_One.mp3), of "Everybody Is The One." Bailey sings lead. (p.s. - you're gonna flip over the horns!)

NOTE: this show first aired on March 4, 2010.
Next time...
Club Indie's next guest in March is Lily Sparks (http://www.lilysparks.com), NYC's hard rocking trio of ladies whose pounding beat and wailing guitars instantly remind you of Heart, Pink, and Pat Benetar.
